Arranging a fraud consultation in Mississauga
The office is at 250 Dundas Street West, Suite 402, Mississauga, with visits by appointment only. When arranging the conversation, say whether police have contacted you, charges have been laid or a court appearance is coming up. You can also indicate whether you prefer English, Punjabi or Hindi. The first discussion can identify the immediate issue and the work you may need. Mention whether another lawyer already acts for you. A detailed review of financial records and any representation must be arranged separately with the firm.
If police have asked to speak with you
Note which transaction or allegation police have identified, what they have requested and any proposed meeting time. Keep the officer’s name and contact information. Preserve any message, notice or warrant provided, and tell counsel whether you have already given a statement or supplied documents. A request to speak does not by itself establish whether you are a witness, a suspect or detained. Obtain advice before giving a voluntary account, and ask about any specific obligation to respond. If you are arrested or detained, ask to speak with a lawyer.
If you have a fraud charge or court date
Have the exact charge wording, summons or release papers and the next appearance details available. Note whether you have received disclosure, and keep later court directions with the original papers. A Mississauga address does not determine the courthouse: use the court level, location and attendance instructions for your own matter. Tell the firm about any restriction affecting work, account access or contact with another person. A consultation request does not change those conditions, excuse attendance or confirm that a lawyer will appear for you.
Prepare a focused transaction history
For each disputed transaction, note the date, amount, people involved, what was said or promised, who gave instructions or approval and the records that may explain your role. Mark what you know personally and what you still need to check. Preserve original contracts, invoices, statements and complete messages that you may lawfully access; do not alter or backdate them. List records you hold separately from missing records or material held by someone else, so counsel can discuss appropriate steps to obtain it. This short inventory can help plan a later evidence review without putting financial account details or a long case history into the enquiry form.
Preparing for the first conversation
- Note the stage of the matter and the nearest police, court or identification date.
- Keep charge documents, current conditions and any disclosure available for an agreed review.
- List the disputed transactions and the records you may lawfully access, preserving originals.
- Tell the firm whether you have a Legal Aid Ontario certificate or are applying; arrange the exchange of documents directly.
Keep the initial website enquiry brief. Do not upload or send sensitive documents through the form; arrange any document review directly with the firm.
You do not need every item before getting in touch. Mention any approaching court or response date.
Common questions
Can I speak with a fraud lawyer before police lay a charge?
Yes. You can request a consultation about a fraud investigation before a charge is laid. Explain what police or another person has asked for and any proposed meeting time. Advice should address your actual position and obligations; an allegation alone does not establish guilt.
Should I send my bank statements with the consultation request?
No. Keep the initial enquiry brief and leave out account numbers, passwords and sensitive records. You can say that financial records are available. Arrange any document review and the method of providing records directly with the firm.
Does a free consultation include a full financial-record review or court attendance?
No. The free initial consultation concerns your situation, options and potential representation. Detailed document review and any court work require a separate arrangement. The firm must complete an initial review and conflict check and agree to act; continue following your current court directions.
Can I use a Legal Aid Ontario certificate for a fraud charge?
Aftermath Law accepts criminal law certificates. Legal Aid Ontario decides eligibility and what the certificate covers. Contact the firm to discuss the charge, certificate terms and whether it can assist after its initial review and conflict check. A certificate does not itself confirm a retainer.
