Discuss a particular charge in Punjabi

Bail and release conditions you need to understand
Bring the undertaking, release order or other release document and identify any term you do not understand. Conditions may restrict contact, travel or attendance at a particular address. A Punjabi explanation can help you understand the written terms, but it does not change them. Follow the existing conditions while your lawyer reviews any bail issue or the proper process for asking for a change. Another person’s permission does not replace that process.
Criminal representation: evidence, options and next steps
The written charge identifies the allegation; it does not establish what happened. During a private discussion with counsel, you can explain your account in Punjabi without first translating the offence name. If retained, counsel can review disclosure, assess witness accounts and other available evidence, identify legal issues and explain the options. The agreed representation may include discussions with the Crown, advice about a proposed resolution or preparation for trial. Decisions depend on the evidence and your instructions; no particular outcome can be promised.
Punjabi consultations and court interpretation
Dildeep Sahi provides consultations in Punjabi, English and Hindi. Tell the firm which language you prefer when arranging the appointment. Speaking Punjabi with your lawyer does not make Punjabi the language of the court proceeding or book a court interpreter.
For an Ontario Court of Justice criminal appearance, you can request an interpreter through the courthouse before your court date. You can also tell the judge or justice of the peace at the appearance. That court provides interpreters without charge. Check the interpreter arrangements separately from your Punjabi consultation. Documents or evidence in another language may require a separate translation; confirm what is needed before paying for one.
Preparing for representation from our Mississauga office
Office visits are by appointment. When booking, identify the next court date, the court named on your paperwork and your preferred consultation language. The assigned court’s directions control attendance; the office address does not determine the hearing location. Keep original messages, records and any disclosure available for an agreed review. If someone helped you contact the firm, discuss whether you want to speak privately before involving them in instructions or sharing sensitive material.

Common questions
Do I need to write my account in English before calling?
No English narrative is needed to request a Punjabi consultation. Keep the first enquiry brief and arrange any detailed account or document review directly with the firm.
Does a Punjabi consultation include court interpretation?
No. The language you use with your lawyer is separate from arranging a court interpreter. Raise the need early so the right court process can be followed.
How do I arrange representation after a Punjabi consultation?
Ask Dildeep what work your next stage needs and how advice and instructions will be discussed in Punjabi. Ask about the proposed fees or certificate coverage too. The firm must check for conflicts, make sure it is available and agree to act. The scope of work and retainer terms must be confirmed before work begins. A consultation alone does not confirm representation.
Can I use a Legal Aid Ontario certificate for criminal representation?
Aftermath Law accepts Legal Aid Ontario certificates for criminal law matters, subject to the certificate and conflict checks. The firm must also agree to act. Contact the firm to discuss whether it can assist with your matter. You may request a free consultation before receiving a certificate.
