A criminal harassment allegation may bring together messages, visits and other events from different dates. Start with the period and conduct actually alleged
Read the charge papers or police request before trying to explain the whole relationship or dispute. Note the alleged date or date range and which conduct is identified. If several events are mentioned, give each its own entry rather than combining them into one general denial. Where the allegation is still unclear, record the question instead of filling the gap yourself. The legal assessment must address the applicable law and alleged dates; a count of messages alone does not answer every criminal-harassment allegation.
Build a chronology that points back to the records
For each event, note the date or approximate time, what is said to have happened and the record that refers to it. Identify whether that source is a message, call log, statement, recording or your own recollection. Keep approximate dates visibly approximate and explain any uncertainty about an account or person involved. A chronology can help counsel locate the evidence, but it should not replace the full originals. Preserve surrounding messages and material that may not fit your recollection as well as the records you think help.
Keep missing evidence separate from disputed evidence
If disclosure refers to an attachment, recording or statement that you have not received, list that item separately from material you have seen and dispute. For a disputed item, identify the passage or timestamp and the particular concern: the date, identity, sequence or missing context. Tell counsel where another record may be held, including if it is at a place you cannot attend. Do not seek access to someone else’s account, monitor their movements or approach them to create or obtain evidence. Further requests or preservation steps should be discussed with counsel.
Put current restrictions beside the practical problem
Keep the complete undertaking, release order and any related family or other court order together. An allegation about past conduct and a restriction on what you may do now are different questions. Identify any conflict involving work, shared property or family arrangements, and quote the exact term that concerns you. An invitation, a reply or an informal agreement does not itself change a binding condition. Do not use another person or account to get around a contact restriction. Identify any written exception and discuss a lawful arrangement or change with counsel while continuing to follow the current terms.
Choose the next decision for the lawyer to address
Tell the firm whether you need advice before a police interview, help understanding new disclosure or representation in an existing case. If another charge appears beside criminal harassment, identify it separately; different offences should not be treated as interchangeable labels for the same dispute. Keep the next court and fingerprint instructions available. A Brampton address does not determine the attendance location or method, and requesting a consultation does not excuse an appearance. If a lawyer is already acting, explain that when asking the firm to consider further work.
Arrange the review from the Mississauga office
Aftermath Law serves Brampton from 250 Dundas Street West, Suite 402, Mississauga, ON L5B 1J2. Office visits are by appointment only. The free initial consultation with Dildeep Sahi is available in English, Punjabi and Hindi and discusses your situation, options and possible representation. Start with the stage, next known date and advice you need; arrange delivery of detailed records directly with the firm. A full chronology or disclosure review, a legal opinion, negotiations and court attendance require separately agreed work after the firm checks the matter, conflicts and availability. An enquiry alone does not establish a retainer.
Preparing for the first conversation
- The allegation’s date range and the conduct identified, with unknown details marked clearly.
- A dated chronology linked to the original records, keeping recollections separate from documents.
- Two short lists: records referred to but missing, and specific points you dispute in records received.
- All current restrictions, the practical difficulty they create and the next attendance instructions.
- The immediate advice requested, any lawyer already acting and an agreed method for detailed records review.
Keep the initial website enquiry brief. Do not upload or send sensitive documents through the form; arrange any document review directly with the firm.
You do not need every item before getting in touch. Mention any approaching court or response date.
Common questions
What if I only know an approximate date for an alleged incident?
Mark it as approximate and identify how you remember it or which record may help establish the date. Do not turn an estimate into a definite fact. Counsel can compare the chronology with disclosure and assess what further information is needed.
Should I send only the screenshots that support my account?
Preserve the full records you can lawfully access, including the surrounding exchange. A selected screenshot may leave out timing or context. Identify the items you consider important in separate notes and arrange the scope of review with the firm.
Can I collect a record from a shared home or ask a mutual friend to get it?
Check the exact location and direct- or indirect-contact restrictions first. A useful record does not create an exception to a binding condition. Tell counsel what exists and where it may be held so a lawful way to address it can be considered.
Does this page help someone who is seeking protection from harassment?
This is a defence enquiry page for a person facing an allegation. The peace-bond guide explains a separate criminal-law procedure. Advice about family protection orders should be obtained from a family-law practitioner. A consultation request does not file a complaint or obtain an order; follow the safety notice if a reply could put you at risk.
Do I need a Brampton office appointment to discuss the allegation?
The firm serves Brampton from its appointment-only Mississauga office. Ask about consultation arrangements and identify the next known date. A free initial discussion does not include a full evidence review or confirm that counsel will attend court; that work must be agreed separately.
