Punjabi Assault Lawyer in Brampton

When an assault allegation involves several people or accounts passed through relatives, it can be hard to separate what you saw from what others reported. Brampton clients can explain that distinction to Dildeep Sahi in Punjabi. Aftermath Law serves Brampton from its Mississauga office and can discuss the charge, the immediate obligations and whether representation is appropriate.

Punjabi consultations and court interpretation

Dildeep Sahi provides consultations in Punjabi, English and Hindi. Tell the firm which language you prefer when arranging the appointment. Speaking Punjabi with your lawyer does not make Punjabi the language of the court proceeding or book a court interpreter.

For an Ontario Court of Justice criminal appearance, contact the courthouse before your court date to request an interpreter, or tell the judge or justice of the peace at the appearance. That court provides interpreters without charge. Confirm arrangements separately from your Punjabi consultation. Documents or evidence in another language may require a separate translation; confirm what is needed before paying for one.

Identify what each assault count actually alleges

Keep the complete charge document, including counts that may relate to different people or moments. Ordinary assault concerns intentional non-consensual force and other conduct defined in section 265. Assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm involves additional elements. Do not treat every count as the same allegation or assume that a single argument means only one issue. Your explanation can use everyday Punjabi; counsel can connect it to the precise written accusation.

Separate personal knowledge from a repeated account

If an encounter involved several participants, describe who was close enough to see or hear each part and where your own knowledge ends. Identify the speaker and language of a statement rather than treating a family member’s summary as your memory. Preserve original group messages without asking anyone to change an account. Counsel can compare those details with police notes, witness statements and recordings; disagreement between witnesses does not by itself prove the charge must fail.

Give video and messages their full surrounding context

A clip beginning after an encounter starts may not show what preceded the alleged contact. Tell counsel where the recording begins, who made it and whether a longer version may exist. Keep material lawfully available to you without trimming or adding captions that alter the original. If a Punjabi statement was summarized in English, identify the exact passage you dispute and why. Record potential witnesses for counsel without approaching someone in breach of a condition.

Prepare for the assigned court event

Read the court name, date and attendance instructions on your own paperwork. A Brampton address does not by itself decide every hearing location or method of attendance. Early case-management appearances can address disclosure and scheduling rather than determine guilt. Confirm any representation arrangement expressly. Court interpretation is separate from Punjabi consultation; notify counsel and the assigned courthouse if language assistance is needed instead of assuming a relative can interpret at the hearing.

Consider defence and outcome questions on the evidence

Possible questions include whether the alleged contact was intentional, whether identification is reliable and whether self-defence applies. Self-defence requires more than describing a fight: the perceived force or threat, defensive purpose and reasonableness of the response matter. The Crown’s chosen procedure and the specific offence affect possible punishment. A charge does not predetermine a conviction, and no particular dismissal, plea arrangement or sentence can be promised from a short account.

Make your own instructions clear in Punjabi

Someone else may help arrange contact, but the lawyer needs your account and instructions. Ask to speak privately if a relative’s presence makes it difficult to explain the incident. A free initial consultation addresses the situation, options and potential representation; detailed evidence review and further work are arranged separately. Visits to the Mississauga office are by appointment. Confirm which documents should be supplied and how before sending sensitive material.

Preparing for the first conversation

  • List every charge and the next event named in your own court papers.
  • Distinguish what you personally saw or heard from information supplied by another person.
  • Keep full lawful video, messages and original-language records, noting any missing portion.
  • Identify release restrictions, any need for a private Punjabi discussion and a separate court-interpreter need.

Keep the initial website enquiry brief. Do not upload or send sensitive documents through the form; arrange any document review directly with the firm.

You do not need every item before getting in touch. Mention any approaching court or response date.

Common questions

Do I need a lawyer located in Brampton to discuss the allegation?

Aftermath Law serves Brampton clients from its Mississauga office. Office visits are by appointment. Confirm the consultation arrangements separately from the court location and any agreement for representation.

Is an early court appearance the same as the assault trial?

Not necessarily. Early case-management appearances commonly deal with disclosure, representation and scheduling. Follow the directions for your particular event and ask if its purpose or attendance requirements are unclear.

Will a conflict between witness accounts automatically end the charge?

No. Accounts must be compared with the whole record, including recordings and other evidence. Counsel can assess whether the disagreement affects an element of the offence, identification or a possible defence.

Can I discuss Legal Aid Ontario representation in Punjabi?

Yes. Aftermath Law accepts criminal Legal Aid Ontario certificates, subject to coverage, conflicts, availability and an agreed retainer. LAO decides eligibility and certificate coverage. A consultation does not guarantee funding or confirm that representation has begun.
