Give each document its own role and stage
Keep applications, notices, proposals and operative orders separately identified by date and source. State whether you are seeking a bond, responding or discussing terms in each matter. A document involving the same person may ask a different question or record a different obligation.
Identify the immediate decision in each matter
Describe the response, proposed wording or existing restriction you need assessed. Keep any criminal papers available alongside the bond documents. Do not combine separate requests into an assumed mutual arrangement or treat a private agreement as a change to current terms.
Confirm the actual next step and agreed work
Use the latest notice for each event and clarify which work counsel would undertake. This form does not file either an application or response. Follow existing terms unless lawfully changed; if a reply could put you at risk, do not submit the form and contact the firm when safe.
Understand the legal questions before choosing a response
A section 810 peace bond is preventive and differs from a trial deciding guilt on an assault charge. Other statutory types may have different requirements, so identify the actual provision and whether you are applying, responding or considering proposed terms. A bond is not the same as a criminal conviction, but its terms create obligations and breach can lead to a criminal charge. Do not assume proposed wording changes an existing restriction.
Preparing for the first conversation
- Give each document its own role and stage
- Identify the immediate decision in each matter
- Confirm the actual next step and agreed work
Keep the initial website enquiry brief. Do not upload or send sensitive documents through the form; arrange any document review directly with the firm.
You do not need every item before getting in touch. Mention any approaching court or response date.
Common questions
Does a proposal in one matter automatically resolve the other papers?
No. Identify each document and its stage separately. Counsel needs to assess the actual proceedings and operative obligations rather than assume one arrangement covers them all.
Can I use this form to file both a request and a response?
No. It is an enquiry for advice. Filing, response and any representation require assessment and expressly agreed work through the appropriate process.
Is a peace bond the same as a criminal conviction?
No. It is a different legal measure, but agreed or ordered terms create obligations. Obtain advice about the actual provision, wording and consequences before deciding what to do.
Can an invitation override a peace-bond condition?
No. Follow the actual terms unless lawfully changed. Keep any proposed arrangement for counsel; do not treat private agreement as a variation.
