Aftermath Law provides criminal Legal Aid information and representation to Toronto clients from its Mississauga office. Match the certificate to the criminal matter

Keep the complete certificate or application decision with your criminal charge papers and release document. Check the case, court level and work described rather than relying on a remembered summary. If another proceeding or order affects the same people, identify it separately so counsel can assess its impact on the criminal matter without assuming the certificate covers other work.

State the particular work requested

Describe the criminal advice or event needing attention. Legal Aid Ontario decides eligibility and authorized work. Aftermath Law accepts criminal certificates subject to assessment, conflicts, certificate terms and availability; an enquiry does not establish a retainer. Identify the next required appearance and ask what work the firm can consider.

Confirm the criminal work and court attendance

Keep approaching criminal events visible and ask expressly which work the firm has agreed to handle. A certificate, initial consultation or document review does not automatically arrange attendance at every appearance. Continue following current conditions and court directions while funding and representation are clarified.

Understand the legal questions before choosing a response

Legal Aid Ontario decides eligibility and the work authorized by a certificate. Aftermath Law accepts criminal law certificates, subject to assessing the matter, conflicts, certificate terms and availability. A certificate, application or duty-counsel conversation does not itself establish that the firm acts for you. Explain the current stage and the particular work requested so representation can be considered.

Preparing for the first conversation

  • Match the certificate to the criminal matter
  • State the particular work requested
  • Confirm the criminal work and court attendance

Keep the initial website enquiry brief. Do not upload or send sensitive documents through the form; arrange any document review directly with the firm.

You do not need every item before getting in touch. Mention any approaching court or response date.

Common questions

Does a family certificate automatically fund criminal representation?

Do not assume that. Identify the actual certificate wording and criminal work requested. Funding authorization and each agreed retainer need separate assessment.

Should I combine both matters into one set of unlabeled papers?

Keep the documents clearly identified by matter and source. Counsel needs to distinguish the funding terms, events and work requested without assuming they are interchangeable.

Does a Legal Aid certificate mean the firm already represents me?

No. The certificate terms, matter and conflicts must be considered and the firm must agree to act. Confirm any representation and court attendance expressly.

Is eligibility the same as the certificate covering every task?

No. Legal Aid Ontario decides eligibility and authorized work. Keep the certificate or decision available and identify the specific advice or representation requested.
