Begin with age, stage and the next event
Keep birth and alleged offence dates, current papers and any earlier decision available. The youth framework generally concerns age 12 to 17 at the alleged offence, with statutory rules that require assessment. Identify what the next event actually is rather than assuming every appearance will determine the case.
List support that is genuinely available
Record who can help with transport, scheduling or understanding papers, and when they are available. Separate school or community support already in place from something merely suggested. Let the young person explain what is difficult and what they want to ask. An adult’s help does not replace the young person’s counsel rights or instructions.
Keep daily obligations and privacy in view
Use current release and court directions when describing school, care or work conflicts. Do not treat a proposed support arrangement as permission to change those terms. Keep identifying case material out of public posts. Youth record rules are outcome-specific and contain exceptions; turning 18 does not make every record disappear.
Preparing for the first conversation
- Birth date, alleged incident date and next-event papers.
- The young person’s questions and current understanding.
- Confirmed supports and their real availability.
- Daily conflicts and records kept out of public sharing.
Keep the initial website enquiry brief. Do not upload or send sensitive documents through the form; arrange any document review directly with the firm.
You do not need every item before getting in touch. Mention any approaching court or response date.
Common questions
Does a support plan guarantee a particular outcome?
No. Its role depends on the actual case and legal assessment. Record confirmed facts without promising what the court will decide.
Can a suggested program be listed as already arranged?
No. Distinguish a suggestion from confirmed participation and tell counsel what remains undecided.
Does becoming 18 remove all record concerns?
No. The applicable outcome and access rules need assessment before answering questions or sharing information about the record.
