Theft Lawyer in Waterloo
If someone else paid during the event behind a Waterloo theft allegation, identify what that payment covered and who is alleged to have done what. Aftermath Law can discuss theft defence using the actual items, conduct and original records. A payment by another person should not become an assumption about every item, ownership or the criminal result.

Match the alleged person, item and act
Keep the count and available incident records complete. Identify the item and act attributed to you, separately from the payer named on a receipt or account. Mark where a record does not identify the person, goods or purpose clearly. Counsel needs the actual allegation rather than a combined description that everyone was shopping together.
Describe what each existing record actually shows
Have receipts, payment confirmations, existing messages and supplied recordings available. State what you observed about selection, carrying or payment separately from what you learned later. Identify the source for each person’s role and where your knowledge ends. Do not infer technical checkout behaviour or fill a missing association between an item and a transaction with a guess.
Keep payment, permission and intent questions distinct
Explain the understanding you relied on and any original record supporting it. Counsel can assess the alleged taking, permission and intent with the complete evidence; another person paying does not automatically answer those questions. Keep store demands and release restrictions separate. Do not coordinate an account, create a replacement transaction or contact someone contrary to a restriction to make the payment record fit.
Preparing for the first conversation
- Actual count and the person, item and act alleged.
- Original payment records with the goods or purpose actually shown.
- Existing records of each person’s role, with direct knowledge separated from later information.
- Uncertain item/transaction associations and current restrictions.
Keep the initial website enquiry brief. Do not upload or send sensitive documents through the form; arrange any document review directly with the firm.
You do not need every item before getting in touch. Mention any approaching court or response date.
Common questions
Does another person paying automatically defeat the theft allegation?
No. The actual alleged conduct, goods, permission and intent require assessment with the complete evidence.
Does the payer’s name identify who performed every act?
Do not assume that. Identify what each original record shows and where the person or item association is uncertain.
Should we prepare one shared explanation to match the receipt?
Do not coordinate accounts or recreate the transaction. Give counsel the existing records and your own knowledge, respecting current restrictions.
