Identify the work that was authorized
Keep the actual agreement, messages or instructions and explain who supplied them. Separate an agreed task from a suggested change or your understanding of an oral request. If permission is disputed, mark the point of disagreement rather than rewriting the instruction in more favourable terms.
Describe the work and property condition
Set out what was done and when, using available dated photographs or work records. Identify pre-existing defects and the basis for that information. A later estimate may concern repairs, but does not necessarily show the condition before the incident or who caused the alleged damage.
Separate further work from current restrictions
Explain any request to return or correct the work, alongside the operative terms. Do not re-enter a prohibited place or contact a restricted person to resolve the dispute. Counsel can consider the criminal allegation; a contract claim or repair negotiation is a separate scope question.
Understand the legal questions before choosing a response
Mischief allegations can concern damage or interference with property use. The actual count, conduct, property and permission need assessment; a photograph of damage may not describe every issue. Joint ownership does not automatically answer the allegation. Preserve the condition and use records, and keep any repair or payment proposal separate from current restrictions and the criminal response.

Common questions
Does an agreement to do some work authorize every later change?
Do not assume that. Preserve the original instructions and identify the particular change and permission you relied on. Counsel needs the actual circumstances and allegation.
Should I return immediately to repair the problem?
Do not act contrary to current terms or law. Describe the proposed repair and restrictions to counsel before relying on a practical solution.
Must there be broken property for a mischief allegation?
No. An allegation may concern interference with use as well as damage. Have the exact count and the account of what happened available for legal assessment.
Does owning the property mean the allegation can be ignored?
No. Ownership, any other interests, permission and the alleged conduct need review. Do not assume shared ownership or a repair offer answers the criminal issue.
