Define the place and relevant period

Identify the location described in the papers, the dates alleged and the particular area or container involved. Distinguish regular access from a person’s presence on one occasion. Do not inspect, move or handle alleged items contrary to law or restrictions to obtain a more detailed description.

Explain the access arrangement with available records

Keep lawful rosters, access messages or other records already available and identify who maintained them. Explain keys, shared vehicles or changed arrangements as facts you know, with uncertainty labelled. Do not enter another account or pressure a coworker for a supporting statement.

Separate your role from assumptions about others

Describe what you personally did or observed and when you first learned of the allegation. Another person’s access does not automatically establish a defence, just as your connection to a workspace does not by itself settle the case. Match each question to the actual count and evidence.

Understand the legal questions before choosing a response

Possession, trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, production and importing raise different questions. The exact count, alleged substance and evidence connecting the allegation to the accused need review. A shared location, account name or missing document does not by itself establish a defence or guilt. Preserve lawful originals and identify uncertainty rather than trying to decide the legal effect of one detail.

Preparing for the first conversation

  • Define the place and relevant period
  • Explain the access arrangement with available records
  • Separate your role from assumptions about others

Keep the initial website enquiry brief. Do not upload or send sensitive documents through the form; arrange any document review directly with the firm.

You do not need every item before getting in touch. Mention any approaching court or response date.

Common questions

Does a shared workplace automatically defeat a possession allegation?

No. Describe the actual access, item and evidence for counsel. Shared use is factual information for assessment, not a complete legal answer.

Can I ask colleagues to agree on one account before seeking advice?

Do not coordinate accounts or pressure people. Preserve your own recollection and lawful records, and identify potential sources for counsel to assess.

Should I describe a one-time visit as regular access?

No. Give the actual date and purpose of the visit and distinguish it from ordinary access. Identify the source of each fact so counsel can assess what it shows about the period alleged.

Must I wait for every disclosure document before seeking advice?

No. Identify the papers you have, what is missing and any approaching obligation. A full opinion depends on the record, but missing disclosure does not excuse required attendance.
